Classroom Monitoring
Classroom monitoring and follow-up aims to promote and improve the teaching skills of teachers and researchers, and includes the following aspects:
- Lectures observation by a specialist in Educational Psychology from the Academic Development Unit (NDA), of at least one lecture per year until the end of the fourth year of the probationary period.
- Follow-up meeting between the NDA and the teacher or researcher to analyze and provide feedback on the positive aspects and areas for improvement in the observed lecture, as well as any suggestions for complementary training in the pedagogical area.
- Preparation by the NDA of lectures observation report, to be included in the Report of the Pedagogical Council at the end of the probationary period. This Report is sent to the Scientific Council, as part of the documents supporting the evaluation of the probationary period, in accordance with the respective regulations for the evaluation of the probationary period of career teachers and researchers.
Lecture observations and follow-up meetings are scheduled by mutual agreement between the teacher/researcher and the NDA. These actions are mandatory for all tenure-track Assistant Professors and, in each academic year, for tenure-track Assistant Researchers with teaching duties assigned.
The Report of the Pedagogic Council includes the following components:
- Courses taught (including the number of teaching hours in each semester) and the QUC (Quality of Courses) results;
- Teaching materials developed and duly registered in Técnico’s information system (textbooks, manuals, laboratory guides, new laboratory equipment/facilities, educational programs, e-learning or b-learning materials, etc.);
- Reports resulting from the lectures observation process;
- Certificates of participation in complementary training and pedagogical activities.
